Mako Tactical Folding Buttstock Cheekpiece

I replaced the wooden stock on my Romanian SAR-1 with this. Installs easily with only one allen head screw. The fit was a little tight but thats ok, theres no rattle at all. It folds easily but doesn't lock in the folding position. The picture looks gray, but the product is jet black. It looks good. The best part is the adjustable cheekpiece. With the cheekpiece on the highest position I now have perfect sight alignment with the ACOG reflex sight I mounted on my new UTG quadrail (another product I highly recommend). I was pleasantly surprised that the rubber buttpad is very thick, the kind that is often considered an "upgrade" with other stocks. All in all it appears to be a very well made, good looking, sturdy and versatile product. It will add a whole new dimension to your AK. Well worth the money. I highly recommend.

  1. This stock went onto my Bulgarian AK-74. It's only held on by one screw, but the fit is nice and snug regardless. This stock works great and looks even better. I have no doubt that I will get years of enjoyment out of it.

  2. Replaced Tapco Telescoping stock with this and I could not be happier. This stock has a heavy duty quality feel to it. It is tight, solid and a 100 times better than the Tapco. I'd highly recommend this stock to anyone. Your option is to go inexpensive with the Tapco, go medium with this stock (and it is fantastic, or hit the $250 stocks which I've picked up at gun shows and they feel no better than this one. Really, for quality feel and weight, the $250 stock at the gun show did not look or feel better in any way.

  3. This left-side-folding stock is constructed of tough polymer that seems like it should stand up well to hard use. The hinge locks open very securely with no detectable play. When mounted, the open stock extends back 10 7/8 inches from the rear of the receiver. There is no length adjustment. In the folded position, the lock isn't nearly as positive, but that's not as critical a function.

The best feature of this stock is the adjustable cheek piece that can be raised up to 1 3/4 inches. When using optics mounted higher than stock AK iron sights, it lets you maintain a good cheek weld--a very important benefit I haven't seen on any other folding stock, at least in this price range. I only wish the cheek piece was a tad stiffer.

    Pros:

    Tough construction for polymer.
    Stiff when locked out.
Adjustable cheek piece = BIG PLUS for optics.
An outstanding bargain for under $120.

    Cons:

    No instructions.
mediocre lock in the closed position.
A bit of give in the cheek piece.
May take some work to fit the mounting block.

I mounted this stock to a MAK-90. It took quite a bit of sanding to fit the polymer mounting block into the back of the receiver/trunion, but I expected this because the MAK-90 receiver is a 1.6mm-thick stamping instead of the typical 1mm thickness of most AKs. No installation instructions were included, but here's what I did:

    1) Try the fit in your receiver to estimate how much material needs to be removed.
    2) Remove the mounting block from the rest of the stock (open the hinge, unscrew allen-head bolt inside and tap the bolt until the block falls free).
    3) Place some course-grit sandpaper face-up on a flat surface, hold the mounting block and rub it on the sandpaper in a circular motion, sanding the bottom and side surfaces down evenly.
    4) Re-mount the block on the stock and re-try the fit frequently until it can be inserted entirely into the receiver with a tight interference fit. Secure to trunion with the included allen-head bolt.

Warning: sand even a little to much, and you may never get it to fit securely.

  6. I bought one of these for my Bulgarian AK-74,it fit real nice!I wanted to make it fold to the right so I could keep my side scope mount functional, that involved taking the stock apart and putting it back together halfway upsidedown. This took a few minutes and I am extremely pleased with the result considering there were no directions inclosed. This stock is well made, light, and solid with no wiggle at all and the cheek riser is a great addition which I use happily.I highly reccomend this stock to anyone wanting to add some flavor to an AK platform!A+++

  7. I got to say when I first saw that the MAKO stock was $125 I was obviously skeptical, but I knew I could return the item if it was sub par. I must say I have owned the metal Romanian made side folders and I hope they don't really issue these stocks to their soldiers because they are worthless, I have gone through 2 and all have there own "special problems." NOW onto the ISRAELI made side folder. Friggin' awesome, the stock is very solid and has no play to it. I can just feel the quality in it, and as the gentleman said above I am sure this stock will last for years. I am very pleased. Dont spend $60-100 on the crap Romanian stocks, trust me, go with this MAKO. I will buy it automatically for any new AK's I purchase. Showed it to my good friend and his is coming in the mail next week.

  8. I just got back from the range and this little stock kicks @ss. I was able to take this stock out of the box switch out from left side folder to the right and install on my arsenal in ten minutes. Just put five hundred round through it and I'm in love.

  9. 1. Installation- It came with all the proper hardware, easy to install with some regular screws. Nothing odd or weird going on here :)

    2. Performance- nice length of pull (I'm a ~6ft guy), the cheek riser is comfy if slightly limited in adjustment range. very strong, very secure
